On the afternoon of November 16, 2023, the Fusion Industry Alliance convened its inaugural General Assembly at the campus of the Institute of Plasma Physics, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP). The meeting was presided over by Academician Li Jiangang, with 60 high-quality enterprises and research institutions attending as founding member entities.
At the beginning of the meeting, Academician Li Jiangang delivered a welcome address and explained the background and significance behind the establishment of the Fusion Industry Alliance. The Fusion Industry Alliance is a national non-profit social organization voluntarily formed by high-quality enterprises, research institutions, and service organizations dedicated to the fusion industry. The founding member entities cover key fusion-related areas such as technology R&D, equipment manufacturing, technical consulting, and financial services. The mission of the Alliance is to accelerate breakthroughs in key core fusion technologies, deepen industry-academia-research-application collaboration, boost the comprehensive development of the strategic emerging fusion industry, and build a world-class fusion energy industrial cluster integrating "original innovation, engineering development, industrial application, and financial empowerment"—all with the vision of achieving commercial application of fusion clean energy and driving high-quality development of the national economy.
The meeting then reviewed and approved the Alliance's charter, elected the Council President Member, Council Vice President Members, and Executive Council Members, and voted on candidates for the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairmen, Secretary-General, and Deputy Secretary-General. The ASIPP was appointed as the Council President Member. The Council Vice President Members included Hefei Metalforming Intelligent Manufacturing Co., Ltd., China First Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., Erzhong (Deyang) Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd., Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group Co., Ltd., Western Superconducting Technologies Co., Ltd., and Zhejiang Jiuli Hi-Tech Metals Co., Ltd. Academician Li Jiangang was elected Chairman of the Alliance. The following were elected Vice Chairmen: Yan Jianwen, Chairman of Hefei Metalforming Intelligent Manufacturing Co., Ltd.; Shao Jianming, President of Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group Co., Ltd.; Zhao Deli, Chief Engineer of China First Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.; Zheng Jianneng, Chief Engineer of Erzhong (Deyang) Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd.; Guo Qiang, Deputy General Manager of Western Superconducting Technologies Co., Ltd.; and Li Zhengzhou, Chairman of Zhejiang Jiuli Hi-Tech Metals Co., Ltd. Research Fellow Liu Zhihong from the ASIPP was appointed Secretary-General, and Liu Qiong, Director of Hefei Metalforming Intelligent Manufacturing Co., Ltd., was appointed Deputy Secretary-General.
The meeting clarified the Alliance's mission, positioning, scope of business, and organizational structure, laying a solid foundation for the smooth execution of its future work. Moving forward, the Alliance will closely follow the guidelines, policies, and plans related to fusion energy set by the Party and the government, fully leverage its role as an industry platform, foster the application of fusion technology in key sectors, accelerate the building of a sound fusion industry chain, and help build a robust standards system for the fusion industry—contributing to early commercial applications of fusion energy in China.
